Online support

'After the death of my baby, it was a comfort to chat to someone who truly understood the depths of my grief – because they had been there before and come out the other side.' – Sarah

Email, Live Chat & Facebook Groups

We offer three kinds of online support that you can access from your phone or computer:

Email support

Sometimes writing your thoughts down can help you figure out how you feel. Sometimes it's easier to find the time and privacy to send an email than it is to have a conversation out loud. Whatever your reason for seeking online support, when you email our support team you can expect a response that conveys the understanding and compassion that only another bereaved parent can provide.

Live Chat

During its hours of operation, our live chat support service enables you to connect with a Sands volunteer parent supporter immediately and in real-time from anywhere in Australia. Our rostered volunteer will chat with you during this session, and if you find you need more time, can connect you to further support options outside of these times.

To access live chat, click on the ‘live chat’ button that will pop up on the bottom right hand side of our homepage during the following times. **Please note all times are listed in AEDT. You may need to adjust the time according to your local time zone.

Mon: 7.30pm-9.30pm

Tues & Wed: 12pm-2pm

Thurs: 7.30pm-9.30pm

Fri: 12pm-2pm

Facebook groups

We moderate a number of ‘closed’ bereavement support Facebook groups where you can seek support and understanding from other bereaved parents across Australia. Anyone can see and request to be accepted into these groups, however anything you post in the group can only be seen by other members of the closed group.

Our current groups:

  • Bereaved parents
  • Bereaved fathers
  • Bereaved grandparents
  • Termination for medical reasons
  • Pregnancy after loss and trying to conceive
