We are a welcoming, inclusive and compassionate community where bereaved parents and their families can honour and remember their baby and connect with others who’ve had similar experiences.

Our aim is to meet bereaved parents wherever they are, physically, or emotionally, when their pregnancy has ended, or their baby has died – whether recently or many years ago. We’re in your local community, on the phone, or online.

Sands provides information resources on grief and loss to the wider community – family, friends, workplaces – and advocates for greater awareness of the importance of a healthy grieving process for bereaved parents.

We are the voice of bereaved parents, assisting government and the community to understand and respond to the impact of pregnancy and infant loss.

Today our 60+ volunteers provide peer-to-peer support services for bereaved parents around the clock through our national support line, email, live chat and local face-to-face support groups. We also provide support and training for healthcare professionals to improve the quality of care and support bereaved parents receive.

In November 2020, Sands merged operations with Red Nose Australia. As a merged organisation, we are Australia’s leading organisation working both to prevent babies and young children from dying suddenly and unexpectedly, and providing support services for families following the tragic death of their baby or child during pregnancy, infancy and early childhood.
